Benz Eye View: Hotel Transylvania 2

Hotel Transylvania 2
Hotel Transylvania 2

Pros:

This is amazing animation.  The characters are so alive, expressive, and fast in their movements.

I kind of enjoy the world of these monsters.  There are some things about the monsters that kind of disgust me, but I accept it as part of their world.

The jokes are really funny (although, I believe it is one of those movies that has jokes that will wear off over time, so maybe the re-watching may not be strong).

Cons:

As much as I like the build-up to these people, the villains are disappointing.  They are interesting in beginning of the third act, but they are just show-offs by the end of the climax…

…Which leads to, in my opinion, the conflict’s resolve feels a bit cheap.  I am not going to spoil it, but it feels convenient when all is said and done.

Some of the dialogue do need some work since it is a bit weird and odd, but I am pretty sure the children will not mind it at all.

Overall:

I enjoy it.  Simple as that; I like this movie.  Is it better than the first one?  I have no clue since I only seen some scenes that are enough to give me the idea on what is going on in the sequel.  Children will enjoy it, adults will vary depending on their tastes.  It is silly, fun, energizing, and expressive movie with fantastic animation.  That is all.

Benz Eye View: Black Mass

Black Mass
Black Mass

Pros:

Johnny Depp is the best actor in this movie.  He is cold and intimidating, but he can be friendly and concern at times.  He is clearly not playing Captain Jack Sparrow.

I like many of its themes that play out in this movie.  From the downfall of being a kingpin to the lesson on how to deal with friends that are bad influences are interesting and well-played.

Cons:

This movie is pretty slow.  If you are expecting plenty of action, do not seek this movie since they spend plenty of time talking about certain things that have small impact to the story.

Many of the side characters are not well-developed.  The movie spends time with them as they are as important as James “Whitey” Bulger, but they either stand there doing nothing or do their jobs.  It is hard for the audience to care for them at all if they do that.

Overall:

Black Mass is based off of a true story about James “Whitey” Bulger and his crimes in South Boston while collaborating with the F.B.I.  I do not know if the movie is true to the actual events, but I can say this: I will admit that this movie was decently made, but I just do not care for it.  It does what it needs to do, and it does its job more or less.  I really do not have much to say about this movie other than it is for any person who loves gangster movies.  I am not really much a fan of it unless they do something unique to the genre.  Hopefully, you may enjoy it better than I do.

Benz Eye View: Hitman: Agent 47

Hitman: Agent 47
Hitman: Agent 47

Pros:

Agent 47 is the only interesting character in the movie (and that is not saying much).

Some of the elements of the video games are in the movie (as far as I can remember).

There are plenty of cool action scenes with many OUCH moments…

Cons:

…But many action scenes do suffer from editing and camera work issues that make them choppy.

There are so many parts in the story that left me confused, because they do not explain much.  However, the parts that they do explain are ludicrous and unbelievable.

So many of these characters are dumb, which is why Agent 47 is the only interesting character in the movie, but he somewhat suffers of the same dumbness as any of the other characters.

Overall:

Hitman: Agent 47 is based off of the Hitman video game series by IO Interactive.  As a movie, it is not good.  Not only is it cliched and uninteresting, but there are so many plot holes and unexplained elements if you think about it hard enough.  You may ask me, “Is the movie true to the video games?”  You are asking the wrong guy, because I have only played one Hitman game briefly, and I sucked at it.  I cannot say if this movie is better than the last Hitman movie that it is rebooted from (although, one the writers of Hitman (2007) also wrote Hitman: Agent 47), because it has been a long time since I have seen it.  I can say that this movie is not worth your time other than some cool action sequences.  My recommendation is just play the video games, and hope one day that there will be a great movie based off of a video game.

Benz Eye View: War Room

War Room
War Room

Pros:

Even though this is similar to another Kendrick movie (Fireproof), this movie has a really good message that is meant for everyone.

The best character in this movie is Miss Clara.  She is so full of spirit and wit that she excites me every time she comes on screen.

This is also a really funny movie.  Some jokes may fall flat, but the other ones are hilarious and fun.

Cons:

If you are a film person like me, you may notice that the editing and camera work need some improvements.  It may not bother a regular person, but it is distracting to the film people.

Some scenes are not necessary to the movie.  Particularly, the scenes that are supposed to be funny (but fall flat) as its purpose.

The movie goes on a bit too long.  By the time the two main plot points are resolved, the other plot points are shown so we can know how they are resolved.  It makes the movie longer than it needs to be, and completely unnecessary.

Overall:

Another Christian movie in my neck of the woods.  What do I think about it?  It is one of the better Christian movies I have ever seen.  Not to say that it does not have any problems.  Does it suffer for being preachy?  Kind of, but I think they managed it pretty well (in fact, there is scene that points out that they are being preachy).  Is the acting good?  It is sub-par at best, but I can tell that they are trying.  Is the writing well done?  It does what it needs to do, but it surely needs some improvements.  I do recommend this movie to everyone (even non-Christians), but like every other Christian movies, do not expect a masterpiece.
